This past fall, I took Karen Kohlhaas’s Tennessee Williams Advanced Scene Study Class. My primary scene work was focused on the role of Lot in Kingdom of Earth, a role I would happily dye my hair blond and lose 20 pounds to play off or on Broadway.
I worked extensively on the accent for my character–and not just general Southern, but specifically the Mississippi Delta–with Susan Finch and Ms. Kohlhaas, who has spent a great deal of the time in the region filming her upcoming documentary on Mr. Williams. A great deal of dramaturgy was provided by Ms. Kohlhaas and the renowned Thomas Keith. My scene partner, Ryan DeHaven Templeton as Myrtle, and I were instructed to dissect the entire play, functioning as director of the piece to provide ourselves with a detailed, specific framework for our scene work, which Karen directed as we built to the final presentation of our scenes.
I also had the pleasure of playing Dr. Sugar in Suddenly Last Summer with Susan Neuffer and Lena Hudson, as well as a cameo in Summer & Smoke.
