One of the most fun moments created was this blink and you’ll miss it animation near the top of the film where this house covered in numbers reveals gifts foreshadowing the rest of the film when each numbered box opens on the house before the whole thing explodes when Lady Gaga as an evil Snow Queen uses the Snowmatica to free herself from her snow globe prison.
The house is inspired by the alpine architecture of German Bavaria and the Tyrol region of Austria. (This last sentence is an example of the pure brilliance of my husband and frequent collaborator, Jared R. Pike, who makes everything I do smarter). I took a window off of a stock photo and remixed it into the image repeated all over the house. The doors were created in the same way.
This download includes a .png of the house, a .png of one of the windows as they ended up so pretty, and a photoshop file of the entire house that can be used to recreate the sequence or to remix to create your own version.
For the film, some windows opened with simple key framing to slide the window off while others used more traditional animation by switching on and off each step of the object opening for about 3 frames each. You should experiment with both techniques to see what settings look the smoothest to you.
