Animation isn’t easy. When I did Broadway Zombie, I created the artwork in Adobe Illustrator, converted it to layers in Photoshop, Keyed the animation in After Effects and edited the shots and other elements in Final Cut Pro. This time, I created the original art in Photo shop, mixing in materials from free, royalty-free web sites like Unsplash and Pixabay and Videvo. The 4 main characters were mostly animated in Adobe Character Animator. I edited everything together in Premiere Pro, using After Effects for special things. So, there was a learning curve both times. But, I found both experiences to be so much fun. This piece was inspired by an audition I had for a theatre company’s version of a sketch show. Impersonations and singing were part of the materials needed. While I didn’t sing “In Summer” with my impersonations of Barbra and Harvey (which I can and have done live (using prerecorded vocals for Harvey when they sing together), it stuck with me as a fun idea—especially when it became clear that our planet’s climate crisis would be my take on the song. I love both of these artists dearly. I do not intend anything negative with my impersonations of them. They are both supremely talented and rank amongst the greatest artists in the history our planet.
